Velocity Labs
Π∩ϟ originally formed to investigate the feasibility of using video game environments, specifically virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR) technologies, for research, education, remote testing, and training to help form a dynamic digital economy. Our aspiration was to promote and demonstrate how the sharing of digital content can be a foundation for a new economy that encourages STEAM literacy. We believe education, access to information, having the opportunity to contribution and express yourself should be right, not a privilege. Our aim was to utilize the power of technology in a way that enables people to connect, education, explore, and share with each other in ways never before possible while leveraging lesson learned from big data analytics.
After one of the cofounders was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, Π∩ϟ shifted its focus to fields that can directly impact human health & wellness, specifically medical devices/applications, neuroscience and bioinformatics. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Π∩ϟ further narrowed its attention to a specific problem they had been working on since 2015: non-invasive pathogen detection and identification. Like so many companies around the globe, Π∩ϟ wanted to contribute in combating COVID-19, and preventing future pandemics.
The founders travelled to the Pacific Science Institute run by American theoretical physicist, Garrett Lisi - inspired by Eric Weinstein’s Portal Podcast episode. During their time in Hawaii, the founders hacked together a white paper. Upon returning to Canada, Π∩ϟ has been accepted into the Velocity Incubator Covid19 Program at the University of Waterloo to work on a sensor for rapid detection and identification for pathogens. We will keep you posted as much as possible on our progress, so stay tuned!
